  • Ross Reels Earns Montrose's Business of the Year

Presented by the City of Montrose, Region 10 & the Chamber of Commerce

    January 27, 2017

MONTROSE, Colorado -- The new year is starting just as strong as 2016 finished for Ross Reels.

Ross, known for its precision manufacturing and high-end fly fishing products, was given the 2016 Business of the Year honor during the Montrose Chamber of Commerce’s annual gala on Saturday night at the Montrose Pavilion Events Center. The award was presented by the Chamber, as well as Region 10 and the City of Montrose.

Accepting the award in front of the packed house of an estimated 200+ attendees was Tony Lugard, Chief Operating Officer at the company. “This award is quite an honor. We've been part of the Montrose community for over 30 years and our success has largely been from the stewardship of our wonderful team members.”

According to Director of Montrose Business Innovation Chelsea Rosty, who oversees the Montrose Chamber of Commerce, the award was well deserved. She said Ross Reels has been in Montrose for more over 3 decades, and recently expanded its local employment base by 68 percent over a 24 month period. She touted Ross Reels for investing more than $750,000 in machinery and tooling during 2016 in its local factory, helping improve its production and upgrading its facilities.

“I am happy to name Ross Reels the 2016 Business of the Year,” Rosty said, adding Ross Reels also had been recognized in Colorado Business Magazine and has recently won numerous industry design awards.

  • ROSS REELS TAKES HOME 2016 IFTD AWARD

    July 15, 2016

ORLANDO, Florida – Over 255 industry attendees at the International Fly Tackle Dealer (IFTD) cast their vote on favorite new products debuting in 2016. It was fly reel manufacturer Ross Reels who took top prize in their respective category.

Ross, well known for its reliability and quality, took home Best New Fly Reel in the Freshwater category for its all-new new click-and-pawl Colorado LT.

Held annually in July, the American Fly Fishing Trade Association (AFFTA), in conjunction with IFTD, awards the trophies. Voting occurs in a secure space separate from the manufacturers. Results are then calculated by code, ensuring the integrity of the vote and keeping winners in suspense until the very end. This year, AFFTA Vice-chair Michael White announced the winners at the annual “Party at the Pond” event on Thursday, July 14th.

The 2016 IFTD show also attracted a best-ever crowd of 15,000 attendees, confirming its status as the worlds biggest and fastest growing tackle-trade show. The show hosted 552 companies in 1,850 booths, with a total combined exhibitor count of over 700 businesses.

“It's an honor to win any IFTD award,” said Jeff Patterson, EVP of Abel Automatics, the sister company to Ross Reels. “Our sincerest thanks go out to our dealers and the industry media.”

The IFTD award comes on the heels of Ross winning Runner-up for Best New Fly Reel at the yearly EFFTEX trade-show hosted in Europe for the Colorado LT.

The awards are even more meaningful since the Orlando event marked the second major accolade Ross received after completely revamping its business, moving all operations back to Montrose, Colorado in 2014. Ross was formerly part of conglomerate 3M.

Patterson added that “each member the Ross team played an integral part. It’s a team effort and ours is very strong. In many mays, this validates it.”

The Colorado LT is currently available at any Ross Reels authorized dealer. Customers can visit www.rossreels.com for the most up-to-date information. Pricing begins at $285 for 0/3 weight.
