- Good reel for the fly fisher on a budget Review by GC
-
I've had a Flystart 3 for 3 years. I've caught lots of goldeye, whitefish and a few rainbow on it. Like all my reels, I clean and lube it annually, and when it t looks or feels like it might have gotten sand in. And other than a few small paint chips my Flystart 3 it works as well as the day I bought it. My only complaint is the drag adjustment knob. While the drag itself is smooth and reliable, the adjustment knob is hard, smooth plastic and the knob is a bit stiff so when fingers are cold and/or wet the knob is that is difficult to adjust. Perhaps Ross could give some thought to a redesigned drag knob that has proper knurling that would improve its functionality during wet or cold conditions? But even with this flaw I would still recommend this reel to a fly fisher who is on a limited budget.

For the price, it's hard to beat!!
I've caught my first atlantic salmon with the FLYSTART 4 model:
No problems at all!!
The only thing is the drag ajustement...not enought subtile, but the rest for the price is very well!(Posted on 12/18/11)
